Saving energy in the office

6 tips to save energy in the office

Can your office withstand high heating costs? Preparing for the future is critical. Building energy requirements have become more stringent, and energy-saving measures lift the energy label, making the office attractive to future tenants or buyers. But how do you make the office more energy efficient?

Tip 1: Measuring is knowing

Monitor your energy consumption. Once you have insight into this, you can make an improvement plan. For example, which appliances need replacing and can be replaced with something more energy efficient? When buying new appliances, pay attention to the energy label. Use smart energy meters and energy management platforms to collect and analyze real-time data. This makes saving energy a lot easier and thus more efficient.

Tip 2: Pay attention to your lighting

In the office, take advantage of natural light as much as possible. Replace fluorescent fixtures for LED lighting and turn off lights in a timely manner. Applying a motion sensor can also keep lights on unnecessarily. You can also consider using smart lighting that automatically adjusts the intensity and color temperature according to the amount of natural light and the time of day. This can not only save energy, but also improve employee productivity and well-being.

Tip 3: Turn off devices automatically

Make sure appliances are turned off automatically. Soft drink dispensers and printers can be turned off at night. You can also set the server to automatically shut down computers. Also keep in mind that devices are not used unnecessarily often. Use smart power strips and timers to ensure that devices are turned off completely outside office hours.

Tip 4: Get the right heat in workplaces

On an individual level, the workplace can also be heated. For example, use infrared panels and heat pads for this purpose. A rug under the desk can also make a difference. Invest in smart thermostats and zone controls to best manage the temperature in different parts of the office.

Tip 5: Flexible design

On quieter days, one solution would be to not have the people present in the office spread out. By using a smaller enclosed office, there is no need to heat the entire office. Vitra’s Dancing Wall can contribute to flexible office layout.

Tip 6: Insulate

Insulating is one of the best ways to prevent heat loss. Consider Squid window coverings, but a rug also traps heat. Another option is to apply radiator foil, which prevents unnecessary heat loss. For business owners, there are financial concessions for energy-saving measures. Also consider upgrading windows to HR++ or triple-glass to further improve the office’s insulation value.

By implementing these tips and tricks, your office can not only save energy and reduce costs, but also contribute to a more sustainable future.
