Yulius

Organisation for children, young people and adults with mental health problems

The knowledge from biophilic design was important to us in finding the right colour scheme to make every user feel welcome at this Yulius location.

Yulius is an organisation that helps children, young people and adults with mental health problems. At their main location in Dordrecht, we realised three floors of new work and treatment spaces.

Every time we get to design for a company or organisation, it is important to unravel the DNA of the institution. Who exactly is our client? What exactly do they do and what do the people who work there or visit them find important? And what exactly is the reason for starting a project?

Especially at a healthcare institution like Yulius, there are additional dynamics involved.

After all, we not only design for the people who work for this client, but also for the clients who come there. In the new office landscape, Yulius wanted to improve efficiency. With this in mind, it was important to design the environment as smartly as possible.

The building where we realised the new spaces is a large office building with many windows on the outside and a fairly large inner zone. A few treatment rooms were also located in the middle zone. There we designed LED light boxes with a print in front of them. In combination with the view of the city and curtains, this gives you the feeling that you are looking outside and light is falling in from outside. We designed a lot of round shapes in the walls. These create a sense of security. After all, someone can hide behind a straight wall. In addition, the round shapes create the feeling of moving naturally through the building.

We also used a lot of green and relatively soft and natural colours. The knowledge from biophilic design was important to us in finding the right colours so that every user feels welcome at this Yulius location.
