Municipality of Gorinchem

Strong produce strong

Gorinchem is a city with 36,000 inhabitants and has a historic city center which, with its green ramparts, forms the largest fortress in the Netherlands. In the summer of 2019, the Municipality of Gorinchem issued a tender for the refurbishment of the council chamber to have it meet the requirements of modern times again in the coming years.

In association with Roos Ros Architects, Oud-Beijerland.

Sprank won the tender on the basis of price, quality, sustainability and Plan of Approach. The implementation of the project was planned for the period August 1, 2019 to December 21, 2019, the premise being that the council chamber will be available again from December 31, 2019. It was important for the municipality that the council chamber is out of use for as short a time as possible. A realistic / feasible planning of the implementation was the basis for delivering the council chamber on time.

RoosRos architects signed for the design and were given the assignment to give the technically and aesthetically outdated space a quality impulse.
The council chamber has, among other things in the circular carpet on which the city map is printed, golden accents referring to the gold in the coat of arms of the municipality; Fortes creantur fortibus “The strong bring forth the strong”

On the inside of the council table, made of European oak, a large round seating element has been placed that can be used multifunctionally. The council chamber is equipped with an extremely modern audio / video system so that council meetings are streamed live, so that every resident of Gorinchem can follow the council meetings live.
