DCM EMBA is a company that provides technical installations for the for oil, gas & chemical industry. They are robust systems and solutions for which a similarly hefty appearance as their office building is suitable.
Initially, we were only going to tackle part of the business premises located under the smoke of the port of Antwerp. Among other things, we took care of the boardrooms and a sitting area in the hall that can be used for a quick meeting or consultation. The acoustics in the situation as we found it were not ideal, which we improved by installing glass walls and carpet.
Including this in our design could suddenly give the building a much more modern look. Fortunately, our client agreed with this view.
The hall thus underwent a major metamorphosis: from mint green to black anthracite. We gave the circular spiral staircase a concrete look that gave the building a prominent stairwell with a rugged appearance. An atmosphere that matches the rest of the office that was given an industrial look overall, befitting the core business of DCM EMBA. Speaking of core business: the building also has a dedicated spot for an old fuel pump. To balance out the rugged atmosphere, we implemented a few warm elements, such as a Chesterfield sofa and a new brick wall with an old look.
A photo of the port of Antwerp could not be missing from the design, of course. But one that was taken during sunset, which also gave that tough image the necessary warm glow.
